 | Orange County Model Engineers--3rd full weekend of every month ride 1/4 scale trains on a 3 mile track
from 10-1. Located in Fairview Park in Costa Mesa, off of Placentia, across from
Estancia High School.
|
 | McDonalds--north of Knotts Berry Farm on Beach Blvd has trains running around the
ceiling and in the center of the room behind glass.
|
 | Amtrak--to any where, but especially to San Diego and then take the trolley to
Old Town, where the kids can run around, make candles, eat and enjoy.
|
 | San Diego Railway Museum--we've been to the half in Campo (~45 min east of San Diego). Real
Steam engine rides on the weekends and tours of railway yard with repairs ongoing.
Call for hours of operation.
|
 | Perris Railway Museum--open year round, but especially fun during festivals. Call for
information.
|
 | Los Angeles Zoo--just off the 5 at Zoo Drive near Griffith Park. Really inexpensive
family memberships (either $30 or $50 , I forget). Almost as nice as the San Diego
Zoo, but a lot closer.
|
 | Exposition park--just off the 605 in Los Angeles. Currently with the Museum of
Natural History (dinosaur bones), Science Center (very hands on), Aerospace Museum, IMAX
theatre, and plenty of room to run. Call for specific information on times and
prices.
|
 | The Santa Ana
Zoo--is even closer to OC residents
and is something like $3-$5 to get in and is free to those under 2 years. It's a quick and easy zoo for the
very young who lose interest quick and a good way to spend a 1/3 of a day. Zoo
is off the 5 freeway in Santa Ana, I think it's the 4th street exit.
|
 | Adventure City -- on north Beach Blvd, it has a fun
train ride, small ferris wheel, Thomas the train stuff, and a roller coaster.
Inexpensive, and open Fri-Sun except the summer (all week). Most fun for the young
ones. |
 | Santa Ana Sceince center near the 55 freeway and the 17th st exit.
This center should have lots of hands on entertainment for kids. |
